A police constable has been suspended after his wife lodged a complaint against him alleging that her husband was planning to marry someone and had issued threats to his in-laws. When the police questioned the constable, he revealed that he was in an extramarital affair with a woman and she was pregnant.
According to police sources, constable Ananta Pardhi, who is posted at Tardeo police station, married Shakuntala Morgha on December 23, 2013.
"Morgha had filed a complaint at Vikramgarh police station in Palghar on February 2, alleging that despite being married to her, Pardhi was planning to get married to a Wada-based woman and had threatened to harm Morgha's family," said a police officer.
Based on Morgha's complaint, a case was lodged at Vikramgarh police station under section 494 (marrying again during lifetime of husband or wife) and 506 (threatening) of the Indian Penal Code.
"During investigation, in a written statement to the police on February 10, Pardhi stated that he was in a relationship with a woman and she was pregnant. He also stated that he would keep Morgha and the other woman happy together. Since a case has been registered against Pardhi, he has been placed under suspension, pending a departmental inquiry," the officer said.
