A day after fourth accused, Mahesh Falnikar revealed to the Navi Mumbai crime branch about the murder of Assistant Police Inspector Ashwini Bidre. The driver of police inspector Abhay Kurundkar has now claimed that Kurundkar and Bidre were fighting with each other enroute to Mira Road, but continues to claim that he was not part of any murder plot.

According to Navi Mumbai crime branch, Kurundkar was with Bidre from April 11, 2016 till April 14, 2016. It is during this period that Bidre was allegedly killed, her body chopped and stored in the refrigerator which was dumped in the Vasai creek. Police have made four arrests in the case, Police Inspector Abhay Kurundkar, his driver Kundan Bhandari, hotelier Dnyaneshwar alias Raju Patil and nephew of former minister Eknath Khadse and Kurundkar’s childhood friend Mahesh Falnikar.

“Kurundkar and Bidre were together during day the incident took place and their cellphone tower locations were matching. We made the arrest as per the technical evidence available to us “, said a senior crime branch officer. 

ACP Nilesh Raut of Navi Mumbai Crime branch, said, “The fourth accused Falnikar has confessed that Bidre was murdered. Section 302(murder) of the IPC has been applied in the case. We will be sending divers into the creek to trace the remains of Bidre.”
