The Mumbai suburban additional district consumer forum has ordered the Kurla Janta Co-operative Credit Society to pay Rs94,833 to a Chunabhatti-based resident as compensation. The society failed to hand over complainant Ramchandra Shinde's invested amount even after its maturity.

The forum has asked the society to pay the amount along with 10 per cent interest from 2012. It has also asked the society to pay an additional amount of Rs10,000 towards the complainant's mental agony.

According to Shinde, in 2008, he had invested Rs30,000 as fixed deposit and Rs45,500 as recurring deposit with the society. In his complaint, Shinde alleged that even after the accounts were matured, the society failed to pay back his invested amount. "In spite of repeated correspondence, except for assurances, the society did nothing," read the order copy of the consumer forum.

Aggrieved by the society's negligent attitude, Shinde filed a complaint with the forum in 2012. After going through the complaint, the forum asked the society to file its reply. The society admitted that Shinde had deposited the amount with it and that he should have given the money after it was matured. The society pleaded with the forum to provide it some time to repay the amount.

After going through the arguments, the forum asked the society to pay for the delay.
