The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) on Friday appointed a consortium led by AECOM Asia, Hong Kong, in joint venture with Padeco of Japan, Louis Berger Group Inc of the US and Egis Rail of France, as the general consultants for Metro III, the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor.

"This 33.5-km long project is on fast track now. We appointed the consortium out of four international contenders. A couple of days ago, the project had received great response from nine consortia for the actual construction of the corridor," said Ashwini Bhide, managing director of MMRC.

The consultant appointed will assist MMRC in varied works like evaluation of bids for civil work, appointment of contractors, review and proof checking of detailed designs, preparing tender design and documents for procurement of track work, rolling stock, system components, supervision of supply and installation, system integration, testing and commissioning of system components, ensuring safety and quality, and environmental aspects.

"The general consultants will also finalise operation and maintenance manuals among other things," added Bhide.
