A constable attached with the General Railway Police (GRP), Mumbai Central, allegedly had to run from one hospital to another with a dead body on a wheel cart due to callous attitude of hospitals and railway authorities.
According to the Mumbai Central GRP, a 30-year old unknown man met with an accident on the wee hours of Friday. The GRP officials took the body in their custody and completed their paper work. Later, constable SS Karvande approached the Mumbai Central (Local) station manager on duty for an ambulance to shift the body to the hospital for post morterm. However, when Karvande approached the station master for an ambulance, he was stunned as the station manager said he cannot provide an ambulance. "The station manager just denied that my constable had to take the body on a wheel cart to Nair hospital", said Mumbai Central GRP Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Trivedi.
However Karvande's ordeal did not end here, as soon as he reached BYL Nair hospital at Byculla the hospital authorities refused to take the body for postmortem. The authorities from Nair hospital told Karvande to take the body to JJ hospital for the post morterm. With no option left Karvande dragged the body on the same wheel cart to JJ hospital only to see that even JJ hospital refused to take the body for post morterm. "We had to finally seek help from doctors from Nagpada police hospital who called up the authorities of Nair hospital and only after that Nair agreed to take the body to carry out the post morterm", said Mumbai Central GRP Senior PI Rajendra Trivedi. Trivedi further added "As Karvande was at J J with the dead body, I sent few of my men to the office of the station manager and finally he agreed to send an ambulance to shift the body from JJ hospital to Nair hospital".
