Constable attempts suicide in police station

A police constable posted at Tilak Nagar police station on Monday afternoon attempted a suicide by consuming fabric whitener in the bathroom of the police station. The constable was rushed to the local hospital by his colleague where he is currently recovering.

According to sources, the constable has been identified as Prabhakar Desai (49). It is alleged that the Desai had issues with his senior, following which he took such a drastic step. "There was lot of anger amongst few policemen with the orderly of senior police inspector Vijay Khaire and the officer would always side with his orderly," said an officer. Sources informed that Desai, on Monday, was assigned patrolling duty after which he went to the bathroom and consumed the fabric whitener.

Following the incident, the deputy commissioner of police Zone VI, Sangramsingh Nishandar had ordered an inquiry into the incident. Assistant commissioner of police (Deonar Division) Abdul Rauf Shaikh has been asked to carry out an inquiry and submit a report to the senior officer.

Khaire, who had taken charge of the police station few days ago, demands results from his staffers and pulls them off for not performing duties.
