Two years ago, when the High Court prohibited BMC from issuing permits for new buildings unless the builder had a solution for dumping of debris, the real estate market came to a grinding halt.

The matter is currently being heard in the Apex Court. Meanwhile, builders claim to have started looking into the problem more seriously. “We have adopted new technologies like installation of power generation plants after construction on plots. These plants run on biogas and biofuel to ensure minimal pollution. We try to ensure that societies use such a mechanism to reduce waste,” Kunal Chheda, Head, Corporate Affairs, The Wadhwa Group said.
