The Vile Parle police have arrested a 25-year old con man for allegedly duping several college students on the pretext of giving them admission in popular colleges in Mumbai even though the students have low marks.

The accused has been identified as Soham Kalokhe, resident of Naigaon. The police said Kalokhe would charge people on the basis of their marks, and has already taken money from several students but did not give any admission to them.

Recently he took money from three Class 10 students who wanted admission in Sathaye college at Vile Parle. "Kalokhe has been doing this business for several years. To gain victims' trust, he would give numbers and names of a few people whom he had given admissions earlier. The recent three victims were also lured by Kalokhe and he had told them that they will get admission in whichever stream they want in return of Rs 1 lakh. The victims paid him a money and also received a fake receipt from him, however, they did not get any admission. When the victims tried to contact for money back, the accused was untraceable. The victims approached us and lodged a complaint," said a police officer from Vile Parle Police Station.

"We arrested him after conducting the inquiry. He told us that he had managed to allot seats for few students earlier in reputed colleges. We are grilling him to get those who helped him to manage the seats and whom all he has duped and whether he has any accomplices," he added.
