Six days after their birth, the rare conjoined twins with two heads and a heart were united with their mother who was recovering at Sion hospital's gynaecology ward after delivering them.

The 2D Echo report of the babies showed that their heart has holes. Doctors are awaiting for other test reports before deciding the further course of action for them.

"She was brought to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where the babies are presently kept where she was allowed to feed them for the first time since their birth. We are also making arrangements for her in the ward, so that she can spend time with her babies. She is still though admitted in the gynaecology department," said a doctor from the Paediatric Surgery department of the hospital.

The 2D Echo test which was done on Friday showed that the babies share one and a half heart with holes in it. "The babies are stable. We have not yet decided anything on the surgery as our team of experts are awaiting reports of few tests," said Dr Suleman Merchant, dean of Sion hospital.

The babies were born by caesarean section at the hospital on June 27 with a birth weight of 3.6kg. The babies suffer from a condition known as single-hearted thoraco paraphagus. They share the same heart but have two seperate stomachs, two spinal cords and a spinal column till the sacrum which is not well developed. The babies share two lungs, two kidneys, three hands, two legs and a single pelvis between them.
