The Congress then held an emergency meeting at Vidhan Bhavan by calling state unit chief Ashok Chavan and All-India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Maharashtra Mohan Prakash. A day after the Congress ditched the NCP to join hands with the BJP to share power in Gondiya's zilla parishad, the NCP took its revenge on the fourth day of the monsoon session in the state assembly on Thursday. When the Congress staged a walkout on the issue of farm loan waiver for the fourth successive time, NCP members didn't join in. The former allies have been boycotting House proceedings over this issue together since the start of the session.

The Congress then held an emergency meeting at Vidhan Bhavan by calling state unit chief Ashok Chavan and All-India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Maharashtra Mohan Prakash. It explained that the decision to join hands with the BJP was by the local party leadership and appropriate action would be taken against those involved on Monday.

Congress MLA Gopal Agrawal, who shares a strained relationship with NCP stalwart from Vidarbha Praful Patel, had on Wednesday joined hands with the BJP for having a Congress president and BJP vice president in the Gondiya zilla parishad. And this was after both the Congress and NCP had criticised the BJP last week for losing the confidence of people after winning Gondiya and Bhandara.

Soon after the House assembled on Thursday at 11am, leader of opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil tried to raise the issue of complete loan waiver for state's farmers. After heated exchanges and amidst pandemonium, Vikhe-Patil announced a walkout and all Congress MLAs left; NCP MLAs, including former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, stayed put. When the Congress came to know about the reason for NCP's non-cooperation, its leadership, including former state unit chief Manikrao Thakare, called a meeting to arrive at a truce with the NCP.

Thakare called up Chavan and Prakash, and the latter said the party high command isn't happy with the developments in Gondiya. After the meeting, Congress leaders held a meeting with their NCP counterparts in the chamber of NCP MLC Dhananjay Munde, who is leader of opposition in state legislative council. According to sources, the NCP gave an ultimatum to the Congress, after which the latter announced that appropriate action would be taken against Agrawal.

After three hours of discussions between them, the two parties reunited in their attack on the government for complete loan waiver for farmers.

However, Lok Sabha MP from Gondiya-Bhandara constituency Nana Patole said there was no morality left in the NCP while protesting against developments in Gondiya. He pointed out that it was the NCP that had joined hands with the BJP and Shiv Sena to keep the Congress at bay in the Pune Municipal Corporation.
