Former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, along with Shivajirao Deshmukh and Manikrao Thakare, said tabling the motion and taking BJP's help for it has exposed the NCP. Congress state unit president Ashok Chavan criticised the NCP for being greedy for the post of chairman and for resorting to unethical practices by joining hands with "communal forces".
Chavan added that people are wise enough to know where the NCP was heading even though it talked of secularism.
Countering the allegations, Ajit Pawar said it was the Shiv Sena which supported Deshmukh and was trying to convince the NCP to withdraw the motion. He said Deshmukh himself thanked Sena and its chief Uddhav Thackeray for his support. "So does this mean that the Congress has joined hands with Shiv Sena?" Pawar questioned, adding that it was Congress's plan of showing that it is the only secular party.
Pawar said NCP leadership gave the CM post to the Congress after the 2004 assembly elections despite having 71 MLAs, while the Congress had 69, and yet, he alleged, the Congress did not give NCP its due in Upper House, forcing it to bring the no-confidence motion.
