Complainant in rape case named accused

In a new twist to the gang rape and murder case of a 22-year-old woman, the Shivaji Nagar police have named the complainant Nilesh Khobragade as the third accused in the case. The police on Friday produced the accused in the court and three of them were remanded into police custody till September 16.

"The complainant Khobragade lied to the Ratnagiri police about the entire incident, it is when on the basis of his statement FIR was registered and transferred to Shivaji Nagar police. But during interrogations we learnt that Khobragade was lying and we turned him into an accused in the case," said a senior police officer.

"The complainant became party to the crime and later his car was used to dump the body. We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the killing but suspect that it is relationship going wrong which led to the killing but we are probing the case through all angles.", said the officer.

Three accused Akshay Valode, 25, Nikhlesh Patil, 24 and 38-year-old Khobragade were arrested by the Shivaji Nagar police for allegedly gang-raping and strangulating the woman, whose father is an assistant sub-inspector with Nagpur police.
