They gave it their best attempt, and came up on top. Four toppers from their respective colleges speak to dna about their exam preparations and their plans for the future.

* Aniket Shirke, student of Pace Junior Science College, scored 96.92% in the science stream. Shirke said, "I always wanted to work in a newspaper or channel when I was small. I worked hard to top the SSC board examination, but scored 95.09%. I never expected such a high score in the HSC exams, so I feel this is a sort of bonus." Shirke has given his JEE mains as well as advanced tests to get admission in IIT Bombay. He started preparing for these competitive exams from his standard 9. He wishes to become an aeronautical or mechanical engineer.

* Another college-level topper is Kajol Punjabi from Vivekanand Education Society College, who scored 94.15% in commerce stream. Punjabi said, "I believe in following a time-table. Maybe that could be a reason why I have scored an unexpectedly high percentage in my HSC exams. My goal was to score at least 90%, but this is something I never imagined. I wish to pursue my career in Law as I want to serve the society."

* Nishtha Sangoi scored 92.62% in arts stream from Mithibai College. Sangoi said, "I don't follow any time-table to study. I expected to get more than 90% and the score that I have secured has made my day. I wish to pursue a BMS degree so that I can do my MBA in HR."

* Despite all odds, Nidhi Kotian, a deaf and mute student of Pace Junior Science College scored 89.84% in Science stream this year. Kotian said, "I was expecting more than what I have achieved. But I am happy with my scores. Studying for 6 to 10 hours a day has helped me to achieve this score. Getting special lectures to clear my doubts after normal lectures helped me. Now I wish to pursue my graduation in computer science. If I clear my JEE Advanced than I will hopefully get admission in IIT Bombay. Or else I will try in a normal engineering college."
