Christmas is celebrated with the aim to spread happiness among each other by coming together. This year too citizens across the city attached a social cause to their merry making.

In order to extend the festive cheer to underprivileged children as well, residents from Colaba conducted a community event wherein they collected gifts for the children. Colaba Advanced Locality Management (CALM) along with My Dream Colaba organised a month-long charity which concluded on December 24. The gifts collected through the charity will be distributed this week.

Cynthia D'mello, treasurer, CALM, said, "Over 300 people from nearby areas came together to participate in this charity event.

We collected toys and other necessary items like clothes for the needy. There was an overwhelming response from the residents who donated various items. Christmas is celebrated to spread joy and happiness among people. We wanted everyone to come together and contribute to the social cause."

They also organised a community event of carol signing on December 21 for the communities to come together. "This is the second time a charity event was organised and we got a good response than the previous year. People were coming forward to donate more and more materials. We haven't yet decided in which organisation or area we will be distributing them. We will be shortlisting the area or organisation soon and distributing the gifts this week,'' said D'mello.

Besides this, a fun-loving activity was organised by Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for the children at the hospital. Dr Minnie Bodhanwala, CEO, Wadia Hospital said, "It's been another amazing Christmas with all our patients, making them dance and sing with joy and forget their pain at the hospital. We like to organise it every year to see a smile on the faces of the children."
