Two days after dna reported that the first National Law University (NLU) of the state is unlikely to open in 2015-16 due to lack of campus and funds, the government expressed its seriousness about the Maharashtra NLU and sought to clarify the charges of lethargic approach of the government and bureaucratic hurdles.

dna had reported how ace academician and vice chancellor of the proposed university BP Panda has been struggling with the CMO babus to seek an audience with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for the past one-and-a-half months to apprise him of the issue and its urgency.

CM's personal secretary Milind Mhaiskar told dna, "The VC met me a couple of times. Principal secretary of higher and technical education (Sanjay Chahande) was also present in the meetings. We had a detailed discussion on the issue."

Reiterating on Fadnavis's keenness to have the NLU, Mhaiskar added,"The CM is aware of the matter. He is very keen to fast-track the NLU being a lawyer himself."

However, he chose not to respond when asked if the university can still be started by 2015-16.
