Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday was attacked with chilli powder inside the Delhi Secretariat by a man who claimed to be a patriot and stated that he carried out the attack as the CM was fooling the citizens for the last four years. Condemning the attack and calling it a breach of security Raghav Chadha, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), National Spokesperson stated that the attack was planned to cause harm to the Delhi CM. No case has been registered so far.

According to the police the accused identified as Anil Kumar Sharma (40) reached the third floor of the Delhi Secretariat when the CM was leaving for lunch around 2:25pm. "When the CM was coming out of his chamber Sharma tried to hand over his complaint to him. The CM in-turn passed it to one of his staff members. Later Anil Kumar bowed down to touch the feet of the CM, the CM security tried to remove him and it resulted in dropping of spectacles of the CM. Subsequently security personnel removed him aside and found him carrying a pouch in his hand, which got torn and was contained chilly powder," said Amit Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Delhi.

During his questioning the accused told the police that he had no remorse for what he did. "Sharma said the CM was his target and he tried to attack the CM and wanted to kill him. Sharma claimed he is a patriot and the CM was fooling the citizens of Delhi. Sharma resided in Raja Garden as a paying guest," said a source.

The attack on the Delhi CM is a major security lapse on part of the Delhi Police who are in-charge of the Secretariat's security. The man not only managed to gain access to the building but also fooled the security staff who frisked him by hand as well as the metal detectors.

While the Delhi Police maintained that Anil Kumar Sharma had gained access to the building after he managed to get a pass issued at the entry. "He gained entry after he got a reference from the CM's office. The chilly powder was concealed in a packet of khaini (chewing tobacco). The security personnel immediately caught hold of the accused," said a senior police official.

However, Chadha said "Absolute rubbish. As eyewitness to the incident I depose that the CM was attacked. Instead of investigating the Delhi Police is shrugging all responsibility and planting stories in the media. Shameful turn of events, CCTV footage bears complete truth,".

Chadha added that it is shameful that the Delhi Police failed in their duties towards the CM twice in the same day. "First they failed to protect the CM from the attacker in a high security zone as the Secretariat, right outside the CM's own office, now they have failed in responsibly investigating the attack and have instead resorted to feeding stories to the media," said Chadha.
