Light rains were witnessed in several parts of the Mumbai as well as adjoining areas on Sunday evening which brought some relief from the scorching heat. Weathermen have predicted a cloudy day with light rains today. However, this will not help in bringing down the heat wave. Weathermen have warned that inadequate rain would push up moisture level, which could make the weather worse.

On Sunday the maximum city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 °C while the minimum hovered at 24 °C. However, as per weather forecasters, as the week progresses, the city will witness a high humidity level. By Sunday evening places adjoining Mumbai witnessed overcast skies, while places like Karjat, Kalyan received light rains as well. 7.30 and 8 pm, several parts of the city like Malad, Jogeshwari, Andheri witnessed light rains and lightning.

Rajesh Kapadia a private weather forecaster who also runs the popular weather blog Vagaries of Weather said that today the city will witness a partly cloudy morning with thunderstorms in the eastern skies. "Several parts of the city could witness light pre-monsoon showers as clouds are likely to drift north side from south Konkan. However, due to the cloudy and overcast conditions, today, as well as tomorrow, would be warm and humid with real feel temperature around 37 to 38 °C," he said adding that the overcast conditions might clear by tomorrow evening.

Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials informed that several parts of Maharashtra including South Konkan, North Madhya Maharashtra, South Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada were likely to witness thunderstorm and hail. "These conditions are due to excessive heat but by mid-week temperatures will again see a rise," said the official.
