The first local train with automatic sliding doors in Mumbai completed eight successful trips,  four of them during peak hours, on Tuesday for the first time during a normal week day.

According to Western Railway officials, the eight trips included frequent runs from Churchgate to Borivali and from Borivali to Churchgate. The train, first run on Sunday, missed its Monday routine due to IC-Zero maintenance. Every train undergoes the same maintenance routine periodically.

Commenting on the successful run, an official said, "with the first day going off nicely, we believe the era of trains with closed doorshas finally started in the Mumbai suburban system. In the next one year, the plan is to add at least four rakes on both Central and WR with closed doors,"  Installing automatic sliding doors in a rake would cost Rs 4 crores and Western and Central Railways own a little over 200 rakes.
