A 23-year-old railway cleaner was arrested by the Borivli Government Railway Police (GRP) for allegedly molesting a 31-year-old woman inside a Mumbai-bound Kutch Express near Viramgam railway station.
According to GRP, the woman had visited Gandhidham in Gujarat for personal work when on Saturday at around 9.30 pm she boarded the general compartment of the train. When it neared Viramgam station, the accused — Bhanupratap Singh, a resident of Kanpur and a contractual cleaner with the railways — touched the woman inappropriately thrice.
"The woman later alerted other commuters and they soon holed him up. The train reached Borivli at 1.20 am on Sunday and we arrested the accused after registering a formal complaint," said a Borivli GRP officer.
Abhang Rao, Senior Inspector, Borivli GRP, said, "We registered a case under sections 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code and later transferred the case to Viramgam railway police and handed the accused to the Gujarat railway police."
