The arrested person has been identified as Deepak Mahendra Jaiswal, 21, a native of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh.
According to joint commissioner of police, crime, Rajvardhan Sinha on February 2, body was a driver was found in bus of Samadhan Travels near Magathane bridge. The driver was murdered by using a blunt object by some unknown person. A murder case was registered in this regard with Kasturba Marg police.
"The said bus was being hired by a private company and a private bank to ferry their employees from Thane to Borivli. Bus driver Bidan Kuri, 34, was employed on a monthly salary basis. Kuri used to park his bus at highway in Borivli at 9 pm and would leave at 7 am for pick up of employees," said additional commissioner, KMM Prasanna.
As a daily routine, Kuri would sleep in bus at night and while leaving in morning he would inform the travel company about his movements. "The bus owner wanted to employ a cleaner for the bus and would also give monthly salary of the cleaner to the driver, but he was not aware who would be employed as the cleaner. Few days before his death, Kuri had employed a cleaner. Hence apart from Kuri, nobody else was aware who the cleaner was," said deputy commissioner, MM Dahikar.
"On making inquiries with friends and relatives of Kuri we got some information about the cleaner. A police team then left for his native place in Jaunpur and took Jaiswal in custody. On sustained interrogation he admitted of having murdering Kuri. He claimed that though he was employed as a cleaner by Kuri, the latter never paid him salary. On the day of the incident he decided to bump off Kuri and attacked him with a tommy in the bus. He then put his body on the rear seat of the bus and fled," said police inspector Ravindra Aadane.
The police have handed over Jaiswal's custody to Kasturba Marg police for further probe, said assistant commissioner Sunil Deshmukh.
