Mumbai hasn't made it to the top ten in the Cleanliness Survey 2017 conducted by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD). The survey was conducted in 500 cities across the country. Last year, the city had ranked 10th in the survey, with 73 cities participating in it.

The ranks of the cities which participated in the Cleanliness Survey 2017 will be declared on Thursday in Delhi by the Ministry of Urban Development. According to sources, the civic body has failed to even make it to the top 20.

Reasons are believed to be a lack of participation (feedback on civic body's initiative) by city residents, no segregation of waste, pending construction of public toilets, among others.

The survey was based on three criteria — 900 marks were allotted to data provided by the municipal body, 500 to data collected through direct observations and independent assessment, and 600 marks to resident feedback.

According to sources, only 3,600 Mumbaikars participated in the survey, whereas the survey required responses from 2.5 lakh people.
