The space below Dadar TT flyover is set to get a facelift, and will most likely feature a green landscape. This comes after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued letters to those occupying the space below the flyover following an order from the Bombay High Court in June.

Apart from the pay-and-park, which has been cleared, the Mumbai-Pune taxi stand and Shivneri buses also operate from here. The BMC's letter to the occupants states that parking below the flyover is prohibited as it is a security threat.

Since 2001, cool cabs using the space were paying rent of Rs 50,000. There are nearly 100 to 120 cabs parked below the flyover. According to sources, the BMC had given the space within 10 pillars under the approximately 2-km long flyover which permits half the number of taxis currently parked.

The Mumbai-Pune Taxi Owners Association owes nearly Rs 1 crore to the BMC. They have been asked to pay the balance license fee with immediate effect. "We were asked to use this space as the BMC had some road-related work at our earlier parking place. We are ready to move provided the BMC hands over the 100 plus parking space that belongs to us at our original location," said Shankar Shetty, union leader of the Association.

Even the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), that runs the inter-city Shivneri buses from Dadar, operate from here. "We operate 52 buses from here for which we have been given special permission. We park our buses at Parel depot," said an official from MSRTC.

Meanwhile, locals are happy with the decision. "We will write to the BMC to have a skating ring and mini garden below the flyover," said Nikhil Desai, civic activist and local resident.
