Following repeated demands from residents of the western suburb of Goregaon, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to construct a foot over bridge (FOB) near the Eastern Express Highway, close to the Aarey Colony where the Goregaon Mulund Link Road is supposed to come up.

The proposed FOB will be 69-metres long and three metres wide. The construction of the FOB is estimated to cost Rs2.18 lakh. The proposal will be presented before the standing committee meeting on Friday for its approval.

According to a senior civic official from the bridges department, residents of the area have been having problems in crossing that particular road because of heavy traffic congestion. "It's an accident-prone area. The FOB will help people safely cross the road. The project has been long pending," the official said.

The civic body had appointed a consultant to study the feasibility of constructing the FOB. Based on the report submitted by the consultant the BMC has taken the decision.

The civic body has also floated tenders for the construction work of the FOB and has zeroed in on RE Infra Pvt Ltd, who would be carrying out the work, once the project gets the standing committee's nod. The work is expected to be completed in a year, the official informed.
