Residents of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) may soon get to visit a theme and leisure park modeled on the lines of Dubai Garden Glow.
Finance and Forests minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that they planned to create the park at the newly-opened state-of-the-art Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Centre (CMCB) at the Thane Flamingo Sanctuary at Airoli.
"Here, apart from leisure, people will be able recieve information on types, sounds and lifestyles of animals, birds and aquatic life along with glowing installations," he added, stating that the facility would be created by December 2018.

"We will work on it... the theme could be marine bio-diversity," said N Vasudevan, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests of the state forest department's mangrove cell, adding that they would also study the Dubai Garden Glow model and related copyright issues.
"We have 7 acres of land at Airoli of which only 1 acre has been used for the nature interpretation centre," he said, adding that the second phase of the project and landscaping would leave around five acres for the garden glow project.
This centre is a result of the Indo-German (GIZ) Project collaboration on Conservation and Sustainable Management of Marine Protected Areas.
The second phase of the nature interpretation centre project would include a boardwalk in the mangroves with the longest route stretching to 2.1 km, a marine mammal museum and a dome for conducting events.
The mangrove cell has received Rs 10 crore from the MMRDA for this and work on the detailed project report is already underway. The garden glow project could be taken up as the third phase.
The move is aimed at creating more open and leisure spaces for space-starved Mumbai and neighbouring areas.
