A survey on eating habits of Mumbai residents has revealed that evening snacks are the most unhealthy part of a Mumbaikar's diet. Love for food such as samosas and vada pav has ensured that Mumbai lags behind the rest of the metros like Delhi and Bengaluru in nutrient intake. The survey found that fat content was highest and protein content least in the snacks residents consumed. However, dinner consumed by the average Mumbaikar was found to be the most healthy meal in the course of the day.

Mobile health and fitness company HealthifyMe arrived at the result after analysing food records of over 10 lakh urban Indians across several metros in the country.

Mumbai also lags behind in fruit consumption. Mumbai consumes less fruit than Bengaluru and Delhi but is higher than both when it comes to vegetable consumption. However, vegetable consumption in Mumbai is lower than that of Pune and overall Maharashtra. An analysis of top 8 cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune revealed that the consumption of fat is the highest in Delhi (approx. 30%) out of all the metros indicating that Delhiites are at greater risk of heart disease and hypertension. Chennai and Hyderabad have the highest carbohydrate consumption (approx. 57%) due to the inclusion of idlis and dosas as staples.
