City receives over 100mm rainfall

Even as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials from Mumbai confirmed that there are forecast of occasional spells of rain to occur both in city and suburbs there are also chances of few heavy rainfall.

Monsoon seems to have made a thunderous entry in the city. In the last 24 hours, both Colaba and Santa Cruz recorded over 100mm of rain as the city witnessed heavy thundershowers.

Even as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials from Mumbai confirmed that there are forecast of occasional spells of rain to occur both in city and suburbs there are also chances of few heavy rainfall.

There was 110.4mm rain recorded at Colaba while 107.3mm recorded at Santa Cruz to Tuesday 8.30am. The time between 2am and 5am especially recorded heavy showers.

Since June 1 to June 21, 187.9 mm of rainfall has been recorded at Santa Cruz, while at Colaba it was recorded at 171.5 mm. However, the average rainfall for the city in June is 523.1 mm and there has already been a delay of 10 days in monsoon reaching Mumbai.

The rain has also improved the air quality to a large extent as out of 10 station monitoring the Air Quality Index (AQI) eight showed it to be 'good' as both the PM10 and PM2.5 level at location like Borivli, Andheri, Chembur, BKC, Navi Mumbai were measured to be within normal levels.
