Muslim IIT aspirants will not have to worry for finance this year. A Mumbai-based organisation called Association of Muslim professionals (AMP) has planned to fund those students selected for IIT but have no money through Zakat (charity in the month Ramzan). They will be funding only Muslim IIT aspirants because zakat can be given to needy Muslim people.
AMP is a non-profit organisation that has been working in the field of education for eight years. AMP has been conducting fairs in various areas to provide jobs. It collects Zakat and helps orphans ans also people by providing small business opportunities. This time, the organisation has planned to support Muslim students from across India who will be selected for IIT till they complete their graduation.
Since 2013, AMP has helped 157 students and 69 people for self employment. All this was done thorough Zakat. The organisation's president, Aamir Idrisi, said that there are many who secured good marks but they failed to get admission in IITs just because they were not able to afford the fees. "If we help IIT aspirants, then many students will come forward and acquire such education and do better in their lives. Many aspirants just quit IIT because they did not have enough money," said Idrisi.
The organisation has been collecting Zakat in the month of Ramzan. After Ramzan, the organisation will figure out how many Muslim students are short listed for IIT and then survey their financial condition. Those who will be eligible for aid, the organisation will fund them till they graduate from IITs.
