People are upset with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for lack of communication and accountability done on Sunday by not informing the public about Mumbai Monorail services coming to a standstill.

According to Jitendra Gupta, member of Mumbai Transport Forum (MTF), authorities failed to show accountability towards the public by not making people aware about the non-operations of Mumbai Monorail through various modes of media like radio, SMS, social networking sites, television, etc.

He questioned, "Is it not the duty of the MMRDA to immediately inform the public akin to railways if there is any problem?"

The MTF and other citizens are upset due to the inconvenience caused to public on Sunday and Monday morning. "I had to return home from Mysore Colony on Sunday at 7pm, but was turned away at the monorail station. I never would have gone to the station had I known the services were shut. People are being taken for granted, I don't understand why there isn't transparency," said Roy Jacob, a resident of Ghatkopar, who wanted to travel from Mysore Colony to Chembur.

At around 5pm on Sunday, the MMRDA officials were informed by the operations and maintenance team of Mumbai Monorail about a power cable getting burnt and services being cancelled for the rest of the day. But still, the MMRDA did not give out any cautionary notice asking Mumbaikars to avoid coming to monorail stations on Sunday evening and Monday morning.

MMRDA commissioner UPS Madan termed these as 'teething troubles'. The development authority intends to penalise the contractors for unable to provide monorail services and not maintaining service standards.
On Wednesday, dna had reported about the power cable tripping problem, as well as one of the monorail rakes not getting shut down, eventually draining its batteries.
