Citizens from Thane are preparing themselves for a hearing on objections and suggestions to the Regional Development Plan (RDP) for Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), which is scheduled to be held on May 15.

Socially active groups from Thane — Thane Matdata Jagran Samiti, Thanekar and Muse are raising awareness about the issue among the citizens about the loss of green cover due to the project and have started a campaign #SaveThane #WeLoveThane.

Nishant Bangera, founder of Muse, said, "In just a few days we managed to get 600 signatures from citizens. Thane is an intergal part of the Regional Development Plan (RDP) for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) project. One of the major concerns is that Thane might lose a sizable amount of green cover, lakes, heritage structures and ground water, which can affect the ecological balance. Ever since we've known about the project, we have been conducting meetings at different spots in thane to create awareness among the people."
