While most of the state board-affiliated schools will start their admission process in March, CBSE and ICSE board ones have already begun the procedure for the pre-primary section. Both boards start their academic year from April, and feel that the state should hold the 25% quota admissions early. They reason that students who are enrolled through the quota miss a lot of portion as their admission starts in June.

All CBSE and ICSE-affiliated schools begin their admission process between November and January, while state board schools prefer to commence the process in March. However, while the academic year for the former lot begins in April, schools affiliated with the state board begin their year in June.

The BMC conducts their online lottery admission process in June, which stretches for a few months, like it did last year.

Mrs Raj Aloni, principal of Ramsheth Thakur Public School (CBSE), Kharghar, said: "All CBSE schools start from April 1, and thus have to conduct the admission procedure from January. If the education department begins their 25% quota process from June, then those students coming for admission through the RTE quota miss half the portion."

Echoing Aloni's sentiments, Anjana Prakash, principal of Hansraj Morarji Public School, SSC board, Andheri, said: "Our admission process starts from March. But I agree that if the 25% quota admission starts in June, then it deprives those students from receiving quality education."

Vinod Shelar, chairman, BMC education committee, said that last year, the process was delayed because most parents were not aware about the documents they needed for the RTE quota.

He added: "This time, we will display the relevant information on notice boards in all schools, so that parents are ready with the documents before the admission process starts in June. This will help speed up the process and students will not miss their portion."
