A 29-year-old cinematographer was arrested by Versova Police for allegedly assaulting cops on Monday. The accused identified as Amarendra Bhosle, is the son of Bollywood actor Nagesh Bhosle. On Monday night, an inebriated Bhosle had got into a tussle with on duty policemen deployed in Andheri West.

Given the immersions taking place on the fifth day of Ganapati festival, there was heavy police deployment near the western region. Bhosle, who had reportedly consumed alcohol, was in a vehicle with his friend near an immersion spot. He was repeatedly asked by the police to move aside as his vehicle was allegedly creating a hindrance to immersion processions.

"The accused and his friend were told to move from the spot, but they did not listen. He ignored the requests and later lost his calm and beat up an officer. The incident was reported to other senior officers after which the accused was arrested. His friend fled the spot, but the cops are looking for him," said a police officer.

After being arrested, Bhosle was charged under sections 353, 332, 34 and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. After being produced at the Andheri Magistrate Court on Tuesday, Bhosle was sent to police custody until Wednesday.
