Taking a step towards providing more transparency, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has launched a dedicated vigilance web link to combat corruption within the organisation.

Now, if Navi Mumbaikars come across any Cidco official demanding bribe or creating hurdle in their works, they can directly lodge complaints against the officer on the website.

The vigilance team will look into the allegation and after thorough investigation take appropriate action if the officer is found guilty. Interestingly, the identity of complainant and the official, whose role will be under question, will be kept secret for fair inquiry.

The dedicated web link was launched by Sanjay Bhatia, vice-chairman and managing director of Cidco on Thursday at Cidco exhibition centre in Vashi. Bhatia said, "I urge every citizen to report corruption for better governance as zero corruption mean 100% town development."

Bhatia added that he had started taking steps to make the planning authority corruption-free and more transparent since he took charge in 2012. He also explained around 15 initiatives he has taken towards making Cidco's works more transparent. Appointment of Dr Pradnya Saravade as the chief vigilance officer of Cidco was among the major steps to curb corruption.

Dr Sarvade said, "Vigilance department and Cidco has been working towards bringing clarity in roles and responsibilities in all the departments with the aim of creating working conditions with no scope for corruption in the organisation."

The vigilance page, which is linked with Cidco's official website www.cidco.maharashtra.co.in, provides detailed information about the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and how one can lodge an online complaint. The page is having easy navigation tools which ensures the web page should be user friendly.

For registering a complaint, one has to register themselves first by generating a user ID. After the registration, one has to provide some personal information, which will be kept confidential. "We want to develop a system which itself stops corruption," said Bhatia, adding that even after these steps any official is found in corruption, the law will deal with them.

"The vigilance department will not only take appropriate steps on all public complaints of corruption, but also recommend process changes to various departments for improving transparency," concluded Bhatia.
