When did the mishap took place?
Deceased Lalanyu Thari was on the co-driver's seat while two of her female friends were seated at the back. The four were returning from a party in a Bandra-based pub towards the airport around 2am on Thursday where they had planned to stop for food. Between Vakola and Shashtri Nagar, the Shah apparently lost control and hit the divider leading their white Wagon R to flip over and halt on the side of the road.

How did the car turn turtle?
A police officer said, "The driver was under the influence of alcohol and speeding. According to the accused, a truck was trying to sideswipe them and he was about to hit a auto rickshaw. So he steered towards his right and ended up hitting the driver. Because of high speed, it turned turtle and flipped in such a way that the maximum impact was borne by the co-driver."

Did the woman receive timely treatment?
The police said Thari was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead before admission. Doctors said she had sustained multiple serious injuries. The deceased, who hailed from Manipur, lived in Borivali and worked in a spa in Bandra. None of the other occupants of the car sustained major injuries, said the police. Shah escaped from the spot as people tried to close in on him.

Where is the driver of the car?
Thirty-one-year-old Pradip Shah, a businessman who resides in Borivali, was later summoned to the police. Medical reports confirmed that he was drunk at the time of the accident. M Ramchandra from Vile Parle police station said, "Shah was arrested for causing death by negligence, rash driving, causing grievous hurt by endangering life of others and hit and run. He has also been booked for drunk driving under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act and is currently out on bail."
