The Christian community in Mumbai condemned a series of blasts in Sri Lanka that killed more than 200 people and injured 400 people on Sunday. Members of the community said that they will be praying for quicker recovery of those injured.

Dolphy D'souza, former president of The Bombay Catholic Sabha, said, "We condemn the barbaric and senseless violence unleashed on Christians and churches in Sri Lanka during Easter leaving more than 200 people dead and several critically injured. We also condemn the attack on hotels causing more destruction to life and property."

He further added, "Our hearts go out in condolence to those, who lost their beloved and we pray for the early recovery of those injured. The perpetrators of these attacks must be brought to book."

Joseph D'souza, a Christian who returned from Sri Lanka on Thursday, said, "I stayed opposite to the Shangri-La hotel for a few days. It is scary to see that so many people have lost their lives and many of them are injured."

The members of the community appealed to higher authorities to take strict action against the perpetrators of the crime.

"The terror attacks on Christians in churches and other places in Sri Lanka which killed and injured numerous innocent people and worshippers on Easter Sunday is highly condemned. We pray for the affected families for losing their beloved ones. We appeal and pray to the concerned authorities to act strictly against such terrorism and give necessary protection to churches. The churches are requested to pray for peace and harmony and for the bereaved families in Sri Lanka," said Cyril Dara, secretary of the Christian Reform United People Association (CRUPA).

Cardinal Oswald Gracias Archbishop of Bombay has said that the Church in India is "deeply saddened and pained" by the attacks.
