Chintan Upadhyay moves Bombay High Court for a bed in jail

The petition is likely to come up for hearing on Friday. In his petition, the artist arrested for double murder, has claimed that he is suffering from spondylitis and because he is being made to sleep on the floor the pain is aggravating.

Artist Chintan Upadhyay, who is lodged in Thane prison, has moved the Bombay High Court seeking directions to the prison authorities to provide him with a bed to sleep. Upadhyay claims he is unable to sleep on the floor due to back problem.

The petition is likely to come up for hearing on Friday. In his petition, the artist arrested for double murder, has claimed that he is suffering from spondylitis and because he is being made to sleep on the floor the pain is aggravating. No medical help is provided to him by the prison authorities.

Chintan was arrested on December 28 last year in connection with the murder of his estranged wife Hema and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani. Four other accused in the murders — Pradip Rajbhar, Vijay Rajbhar, Shivkumar Rajbhar and Azaad Rajbhar — are also currently lodged in judicial custody till January 11. However, the main accused, Vidyadhar Rajhbhar, is still at large.

Artist Chintan Upadhyay was sent to judicial custody up to January 11 by a Borivli court on Monday.

Artist Hema Upadhyay and her advocate Harish Bhambhani were found dead in a drain in Dhanukar Wadi in Kandivli west on December 11 last year.
