The Chinese delegation from Shanghai had attended a lunch meeting with the civic chief and group leaders of political parties in the BMC.
Mumbai may not become Shanghai, but Shanghai may come to Mumbai to participate in the city's infrastructure projects. Municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta has appreciated the interest shown by Chinese government agencies to participate in construction of Mumbai's key infrastructure projects. The municipal commissioner has invited them to participate in the bidding process, which according to the civic body is mandatory.
"Different subjects like smart city, communication, transport, construction of bridges, roads, coastal road, sewerage treatment plants and other such infrastructure were discussed at the meeting. They have shown keen interest in taking up projects in the city. I have invited them to participate in the bidding process. I have cleared that we have a system of bidding for each project and that they will have to participate in it," Mehta told dna.

Zhou Bo, vice mayor, Shanghai Municipal Government, had attended the meeting along with the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee secretary. A delegation of 25 members was led by the political bureau of central committee of the Communist Party of China.
Manoj Kotak, BJP leader in BMC, who was present at the meeting, said that various issues were discussed and it was observed that the Chinese delegation has shown keen interest in infrastructure projects. "Chinese delegation has also invited the BMC to Shanghai and see for themselves the multi-level flyovers and bridges, development of roads and transport system. This was just an informal lunch meeting; hence, no decision was taken," said Kotak.
