Chhota Rajan's bro-in-law held in 2005 murder case

The city crime branch sleuths have arrested the brother-in-law of fugitive gangster Chhota Rajan who was allegedly involved in a shootout, resulting from cable war, in 2005 in which one Sanjay Gupta was killed.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Jayant Mule, 52, resident of Tilak Nagar in Chembur.

According to joint commissioner of police, crime, Sadanand Date, on March 21, 2005, Sanjay Gupta, owner of Supreme Satellite Vision cable and internet company was shot in his Nerul office by the shooters of Chhota Rajan.

The police investigation had revealed that the said murder was an outcome of a cable war.

"Mule wanted to take over the cable business in Navi Mumbai and Gupta was a obstacle in his plans. For this, he took help of Rajan to eliminate Gupta. Mule and Rajan have known each other since childhood as they stayed in the same locality and later became relatives," said additional commissioner, KMM Prasanna.

Before the murder, Mule was arrested by the police in an extortion case. "Since the murder, Mule has been shifting his base and had been hiding in Dahisar, Pune and Konkan areas. We have been trailing Mule since the past two months and finally apprehended him on Thursday from Thane," said assistant commissioner Praful Bhosale.
