Chhota Rajan is fine, his close aides said on Wednesday.
Sections of the media have reported that Rajan is critical and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore. Reports also claimed that the IB had said Rajan had been taken ill.
But IB sources dna spoke to denied having ever said such a thing.
A Rajan aide told dna on Wednesday: "I spoke to him at 5pm on Tuesday. He didn't talk about any health problems. In fact, he sounded cheerful." Another member of his gang said the don spoke to a Navi Mumbai-based builder just five days ago.
A senior police official said: "Vested interests have floated the rumour about his health and even death in the past. The rumours are revived regularly."
Apparently, this is a trap aimed at tracking his location through the calls he may make to deny the reports. No one knows his location.
Chhota Shakeel, the topmost aide of Dawood Ibrahim, who has been assigned the task of eliminating Rajan, told dna: "I have no confirmation about the news."
