Chain snatcher robs elderly in night

A 70-year-old man was robbed by an unknown chain snatcher while he was out for a walk. The incident occurred on Friday around 10.25pm in Borivli (W).

The victim has been identified as Sakharam Rane, a retired bank employee. He is a resident of Shimpoli in Borivali (W).

According to the police, Every night Rane goes for an after dinner walk. On Friday, Rane was walking towards the railway station, when an unknown biker came from behind and snatched his gold chain worth Rs1 lakh. The incident took place near Shimpoli Kastur Park Complex. Immediately after snatching the chain, which weighed 40 grams, the accused fled away.

Following this incident, Rane lodged a complaint. He told the police that the accused was a well built man, in his late-30s. Rane has given a brief description of the accused but he could not note down the registration number or the make of the two-wheeler.

An officer from Borivli police station said, "We will match the description of the accused given by Rane, with those who have similar offences registered against them in the past. We have registered a case of robbery against an unknown person."
