The footover bridge built at Masjid Station will be open for public use from Tuesday. It is being touted to be the first bridge to be built at a railway station in such a short span of time. The work was completed in 33 days, despite having a deadline of 45 days. The Central Railway, however, agreed that in comparison to other FOBs, this is much shorter — barely 17 metre in length.

On Monday, CR authorities gave final touches to the FOB that connects the platforms of the Central and Harbour line at the south end of Masjid station. The work on this began on November 26.

"The construction of the 4.88 metre-wide FOB was completed in record time. It was done 12 days ahead of the deadline and will be opened to commuters on January 1," said Sunil Udasi, Chief PRO, Central Railway.

The landing of this fob was widened from 2.44 metre to 4.88 metre and the width of the 2.44 m staircase was also widened to 3.66 m. The other side of the staircase was widened from 1.80 m to 2.30 m. All of this work was done at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore.

Earlier, the Kurla LTT FOB held the record of being constructed super fast at 72 days.
