In what Central Railway officials are calling 'dangerous' and 'highly unusual' the spring of a local train (Vashi-CST) broke early Friday morning around 8:20 am near Chunabhatti station. It left Harbour line closed between Kurla and Wadala in the Up direction (towards CST).

Speaking to dna, an official said that the breaking of this spring is highly unusual. "The spring connects the bogie to the coach and ensures a smooth ride. It is very sturdy. The breakage shows poor maintenance routines being practised on these old Harbour line rakes. If the train was moving it could have derailed," the official said.

An equipment laden train has been sent to cut out the spring and pull the train towards Wadala said officials.
