A central excise superintendent allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself using his personal pistol at his Malad residence on Thursday morning. The accused had left behind a suicide note stating that he do not held anyone responsible for his act.

The deceased person has been identified as Ravindra Phadke (49), a resident of Rishav Cooperative Housing Society at Nahar Nagar in Malad (W). Phadke was staying with his wife Archana, a home maker and son Raj (24), an engineering student.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 8.15am on Thursday. When Phadke was in the bedroom, he used his licensed firearm and shot one round through right temple area. His wife, who was in another room, rushed to the crime scene and saw her husband lying in pool of blood. With the help of neighbours, Phadke was rushed to Dr Ambedkar hospital in Kandivli (W), where during treatment he succumbed to his injury around 1pm. The police was then informed.

The police has found a suicide note, written in English, in his possession which said, "I am fed up of my life and committing suicide. No one should held responsible for this act."

"Phadke had used a 7.65 mm pistol for which he has a valid arm license. Malad police have seized the said firearm and have registered an accidental death in the matter and are probing further," said deputy commissioner of police, detection, Dhananjay Kulkarni.

The police would also be probing if Phadke had any dispute at work or with family, sources said.
