The Azad Maidan police have arrested two suspended staffers from Centra1 Excise department for allegedly submitting bogus documents to secure a job. The duo had submitted bogus school leaving certificates in 1994 and were working as sipahi with the department until it scrutinised their documents this year and learnt that they were bogus. The department then lodged a police complaint against the duo.

The arrested duo has been identified as Surendra Phalke and Pramod Jaitapkar.

According to the police, in 1994, Phalke and Jaitapkar had applied for the post of sipahi in the Central Excise department. The department had issued advertisements then for the vacant posts of sipahi, porter and cleaners. It had asked for academic and other related documents from the candidates.

"Phalke and Jaitapkar had applied in the department and submitted their academic documents. They were selected and they have been working as sipahi with the department since August 12, 1994," said an officer from Azad Maidan police station.

The officer added that the department suspected the documents to be bogus during a recent verification process. A departmental enquiry was then initiated in this regard.

"Jaitapkar had submitted a school leaving certificate of Lokmanya Naik High School. The said school was found to be closed since 1961. Phalke, on the other hand, had submitted a certificate of a night school based at NM Joshi Marg. An enquiry revealed that the said school never existed," the officer said.

The department then initiated the process to suspend Jaitapkar and Phalke and got a complaint registered against them with the Azad Maidan police. The duo was arrested by the police on Saturday on charges of forgery and cheating.
