Heramb Arts in Thane’s Naupada area is gaining popularity among celebrities for the eco-friendly lanterns it sells during Diwali. This year, Bollywood stars Hrithik Roshan and Shilpa Shetty, among others, placed bulk orders for lanterns at the store. The outlet is well known for its lanterns made of cloth, thread, jute and cane.

“We introduced a new type of lantern this time, made using cane and colourful threads, and celebrities seemed to prefer these over other lanterns,”said Kailash Desale, owner of Heramb Arts.

He said that while Hrithik has booked around 50 lanterns, Shilpa has placed an order for 30. “We sold these lanterns for Rs450, even to celebrities. The new lanterns are out of stock now,” he added.

A spokesperson for Hrithik confirmed that he had indeed made the purchase. “With the release of Krrish 3 scheduled for Diwali, Hrithik wished to light up the house with lanterns, and he opted for the Thane store as it has unique, eco-friendly products,” the spokesperson said. Raj Kundra’s secretary too confirmed that Shilpa had bought lanterns from the store.

The store has a range of eco-friendly lanterns, sold for anything between Rs5 and Rs1,000.

Artisans employed by the store start creating these lanterns six months prior to Diwali.

A proud Desale said, “We started this business over 15 years ago, we have only sold eco-friendly products. Last year, Amitabh Bachchan bought a lantern from us. This year too, we have sent him a sample of our cloth lantern.”
