If you are a nature lover and prefer to spend the weekend with nature enthusiastics, then ‘Earth Mela’ is the event for you. Sprouts environmental trust, founded by Anand Pendharkar is the brainchild behind this mela. Running in its 6th year, this year’s theme is Food for Life (based on UN 2013 theme, Food security and Conservation).

“Forty per cent of the food grown by farmers never reaches anyone. People eat more with their eyes. If the food doesn’t look good they throw it away. We have to stop doing that,” said Pendharkar.

The two-day long Earth Mela will have a series of educational lectures and discussions on topics of Food security and wastage. There will also be short-film screenings on various topics, amongst these recommended is Bubhuksa a short film on a little boy, who sees people wasting food but has hardly any to eat himself, on Sunday at 2pm.

The festival will have a cyclothon, marathon and bike rides against starvation on Sunday from Maharashtra Nature Park in Mahim to Dadar and back. There will be adventure activities and animal rescue workshops for kids and adults along with a photography competition and treasure hunt.

The events will be held on November 30 and December 1 at Maharashtra Nature Park, Mahim from 7am to 7pm.
