CDR scam: Several Bollywood celebs sought services

A number of Bollywood personalities took services from the detectives arrested in the major Call Detail Records (CDR) racket case, sleuths probing the revealed on Thursday. A number of businessmen also took services of the detectives and snooped into the accounts of their rivals, police sources said.

In a significant development, the Thane Crime Branch also arrested a constable of Yavatmal police station for allegedly being involved in the racket.

"Some people who are closely linked to Bollywood have used services of the arrested detectives. We shall call them for questioning once we get the evidence. Some VIPs have used their services," said Thane Commissioner of Police Parambir Singh.

A few Bollywood personalities had also sought information pertaining to matrimonial issues and about several other peeple, a police source said.

"A number of insurance companies had taken services of these detectives for inquries related to claims. Several businessmen had also sought their services due to ongoing business rivalries," the source said.

The police on Thursday arrested one constable from Yavatmal who used to provide CDRs to one of the arrested accused Ajinkya Nagargoje. "Nagargoje had hacked the web system of Yavatmal police and used to send, receive and delete emails through that system after receiving information from telecom service providers. The arrested policeman was also on Nagargoje's payroll and used to provide him with the CDRs. Some more policemen could be involved," said the officer.

"Some of the accused also have criminal records. After examining the record of the accused and evidence we get, the Crime Branch will take a call on whether sections of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act is applicable in the case or not," said Parambir Singh.

Thane police had arrested four private detectives in January in connection with the illegal CDR procurement case. Later, six more people — including Rajani Pandit, one of India's first private woman detective, from Dadar — were arrested for allegedly buying five CDRs for Rs 12,000 each from the accused.
