The number of students who passed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) standard X exams this year was slightly lower that that of last year, with 97.32% students passing this year as against 98.87% last year. 13.73 lakh students gave the 2015 CBSE standard X boards.

Girls have performed better than boys this year, 97.82% have cleared their exams as compared to 96.98% boys.

The number of students who have scored a 10 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is a whopping 94,447. A few years ago, CBSE introduced a grading system to ensure that no toppers are announced in schools. The results declared only mention the CGPA scores, but no percentage, thus making it impossible to identify the toppers. The average of grade points achieved in all subjects excluding the additional 6th subject is used to calculate the CGPA.

In the Chennai region, which includes Maharashtra, the pass percentage is 99.03%.

1.42 lakh students had appeared for the exams from the Chennai region that includes schools from Maharashtra as well. Lokpuram School in Thane received a cent percent result, and of its 191 students who appeared for the CBSE exam, 41 received a CGPA of 10. As for the Arya Gurukul School at Kalyan, 70 students appeared for the exams and 2 of them got a CGPA of 10.

Bhavesh Fegade from Arya Gurukul suffered from chicken pox during the exams, yet managed to get a CGPA of 8. "Just two days before the first exam, I got chicken pox, and it took around 15 days for me to recover. What was worse was was that I had boils on my palms. The science paper was the first one, and as it is my favourite subject and I had put in a lot of efforts into it, I was very disappointed and stressed. But the support from my school and family helped me to appear for the other exams as well." Fegade wants to pursue science and become a microbiologist.

V Srinivasan, principal of Arya Gurukul, said, "It is the pattern of the CBSE syllabus and the board's strict assessment that ensures the students pass out well-equipped and learned. Apart from this we also offer counselling sessions for career options."

The results were declared on Thursday afternoon, but were inaccessible to many schools due to a server breakdown. "We have been trying umpteen times to find out the results, but we were unable to get details from the website. CBSE has made provisions for individual student to get their results, that would be a tedious task for school authorities," said a teacher from a CBSE school in Thane.
