Even as several city students managed to score above 90 per cent at the class XII CBSE exams this year, with a large number of schools managing a 100 per cent pass percentage, principals said that there was a considerable dip in the number of high scorers as compared to that of 2016.

At most city schools, number of students scoring above 90 per cent seems to have gone down this year. Principals attribute the change in trend to multiple reasons such as higher difficulty level of a few papers like Mathematics, Physics and Accounts and a more stringent evaluation among others.

"Last year, of the total students, close to 50 per cent students scored above 90 per cent. This year, the percentage has gone down to 41 per cent. This seems to be a result of a change in the overall correction scheme," said Avnita Bir, Principal, RN Podar school, Santacruz.

"This time the overall results have dipped. Most students have scored less in Physics and Mathematics which seems to be the main reason," said Deepshikha Srivastava, Principal, Rajhans Vidyalaya in Andheri.

Vipanjyot Sehdeva, Principal, Army Public School in Colaba said that lesser students have scored above 80 this year. "This year there are more students in the 70-80 per cent range, as opposed to last year. Several students have missed the 90 per cent mark just by a few points," Sehdeva said.
