The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday opened the Sheena Bora murder case in the special CBI court by arguing on the draft charges it had filed against all the accused. The CBI claimed that it has enough evidence to prove the charges of murder, kidnapping, conspiracy and forgery against all four arrested accused in the murder case.

Indrani Mukerjea, along with her ex husband, Sanjeev Khanna and driver Syamwar Rai, allegedly killed Sheena and later disposed off her body. Peter too was allegedly indirectly involved in the murder conspiracy. Months after his arrest, Rai claimed to be an approver in the case.

CBI counsel, Bharat Badami, while advancing his arguments on the charges claimed that there was a love hate relationship between Indrani, Sheena and Vidhie, Indrani's daughter from an earlier marriage with Sanjeev Khanna. "Indrani always had a soft corner for Vidhie and hated Sheena. When she got to know that Sheena and Peter's son Rahul were in a relationship, she got worried that her daughter Vidhie, who is a biological daughter of her ex husband Sanjeev Khanna and her, would not inherit the property, and Sheena would do that after getting married to Rahul. Thus she entered into a conspiracy with Khanna and decided to eliminate Sheena."

"Also, she was worried about her social status in case Sheena married her husband's son, and thus she wanted to get rid of Sheena. The evidence, which includes several emails, messages, her conduct and behavior towards the deceased, supports the prosecution's case that she was desperate to kill Sheena with the help of her ex-husband for quite some time," argued Badami.

Badami further claimed that on the day Sheena was killed, the accused had planned to kill Sheena's brother Mikhail too, but since it would have been difficult to dispose off two bodies, they decided to eliminate Sheena first and then kill Mikhail.

"I have not seen whether Sheena is in heaven or hell, but she is definitely seeking justice. No one, including Peter Mukherjea, thought of registering a non cognizable complaint (NC) about Sheena, after she went missing, even when his (Peter's) own son (Rahul) pleaded for her whereabouts. Thus we are trying to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubts," Badami said.
Meanwhile, after the hearing was adjourned, Indrani was informed by CBI officials about her father's death on Thursday.

Advocate Gunjan Mangla, appearing for Indrani, complained to the court about the `inhuman behavior' of the CBI who did not bother to inform the accused about her father's death. "The same was the behavior of the agency when her mother had passed away. The agency is extremely insensitive towards the accused," complained the advocate to the court, to which the court held that it would warn the agency for the same on Tuesday.
