Latest update: Dindoshi Flyover will remain shut for 24 hours starting Tuesday. Brace for traffic jam.
After a part of the Dindoshi flyover caved in on Tuesday, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to keep the flyover partially closed for a week, starting Thursday, for repair work.
The middle lane of Dindoshi flyover, between the two I-girders, has been damaged and, to repair it, the damaged portion will be broken and redone or resurfaced. To manage traffic during repair work, only light vehicles will be allowed on the side lanes of the flyover, while heavy vehicles and two-wheelers will be asked to cross the Dindoshi Junction from under the flyover, an MSRDC official said.
“The repairs will be largely carried out at night when there is less traffic and those travelling can be diverted from the flyover,” the official said.
When asked if any action will be initiated against the contractor who erected the flyover or if the contractor will be asked to carry out the repairs, the official said that the MSRDC will do the needful from its own coffers.
The bridge was opened for public use on April 12, 1999 — a year after construction of the flyover began.
